Microsoft and Turn 10 have backtracked on the controversial changes made to Forza Motorsport 7’s VIP pass.
Earlier this week, the publisher and developer pairing irked fans by quietly changing the way the racing game’s VIP feature works.
In previous entries, the pass offered players a permanent boost to how they earned in-game currency, but in the seventh instalment it was changed to instead offer consumable and limited-use boosts, forcing players to eventually pay for more in the future.
While the tweak itself left fans unimpressed, the lack of communication on Microsoft and Turn 10’s part also riled up the Forza community — with many players having already bought the new pass before Microsoft had even updated the description on its storefront.
Now, in a post on the Forza Motorsport website, the studio admits it could’ve handled the situation better, and has apologised to those players who shelled out for the pass after assuming it was the same as ever.
To make amends, the studio will give Forza Motorsport 7 VIPs four additional cars, along with 1 million credits. What’s more, the VIP system will now work exactly as it did in Forza Motorsport 6, offering a 2X base credit bonus after every race.
“Over the weekend we heard loud and clear from Ultimate Edition owners expressing frustration over the VIP membership offer in Forza Motorsport 7,” wrote the studio. “We immediately updated the VIP description in the Windows Store to alleviate any future confusion. As head of the studio, I apologize for any confusion or frustration our players may have experiencd.”
The VIP pass system will be reverted back to its original state in a future update. There’s no word on when that’ll hit, but Turn 10 promises it’ll be here “as soon as possible.
